HRO – The “Hurricane Relief Organization” had its first meeting last week. Congrats and thanks to Jerome Little, President, Becky Roode, Parent VP, Rachel Thorpe, Teacher VP, Missy Saxon, Secretary, and Teresa Denney, Treasurer. Our first event will be a Drive By Fish Fry on Friday, October 9th. HRO is also helping with our Fall Festival and Spring Fling. Mrs. Carroll’s class and Miss Denney’s class had 100% parent participation and will have a pizza party on September 8th. Our next HRO meeting is Monday, October 5th at 6:30 p.m.
Book Fair – Our Scholastic book fair will be next week - August 31st-September 4th. Each student will receive a preview flyer today. The fair will be open daily from 8-4. It will also be open before and during our Open House from 5:30-7:30 on Thursday, September 3. Please tell friends that may home school or have children at home that we would love to see them, too!
Special Events – 8:30-10:00 a.m. each day
Tuesday – Muffins with Moms
Wednesday – Donuts with Dads
Thursday – Cookies with Someone Special
Open House – This event will be held Thursday, September 4th from 6:30-7:30 and is an opportunity to get a better look at our school. Parents and family may visit and tour our school, meet teachers, and see what your child has been doing in class.
Music Lessons – Mr. Brown, Mr. Reece, and Mrs. White are gearing up for music lessons. If you are interested in your child learning to play the guitar, piano, violin, trumpet, saxophone, clarinet, or another instrument, please call the school so that we can put you in contact with them. These lessons are given at the school, so you don’t have to drive anywhere!
Waffle House – The Summerdale Waffle House on 59 is sponsoring a waffle eating contest and bake sale to raise money for local schools (which includes us!) The Fire and Police Departments and some of our high school students will be participating in the contest. They will also have face painting and finger printing services. PLEASE go to this business and support it from 2-7 p.m. on Saturday, September 12th. A portion of the money raised will be donated to our school.
Theater & Dance Classes – The Starlight school of the Arts and Theatre Company is now enrolling students for classes. The fee is $35 a month and family discounts are available. For more information contact Amanda Batts at 752-1336 or starlighttc@gmail.com .
